Back to the Ocean: Sustainable Development in a Shared Future
The ocean is the cradle of life, rich in valuable marine resources. The survival of human beings, the development of economy and the progress of society rely on the utilization of ocean resources, while human activities has done great damage to the ocean, keeping threating people’s life at coastal areas. Since people of various countries have become members of a community of shared future for all mankind, the ocean’s fury brings the trial to not only littoral states but also all countries and regions. It is urgent for us to go back to the origin of human beings to promote the sustainable utilization of blue home, which asks for both the development of economy and the preservation of our ocean.
The Final of YICGG2019 has selected “Back to the Ocean: Sustainable Development in a Shared Future”as the theme, interpreting the sustainable development of the ocean in three aspects: rational development of marine economy, cooperation in environmental protection and appeal for a general consensus. As members of world teams, you can make an investigation on the marine environment of Indonesia. On the basis of existing scientific literature and relevant material which may imply the development fields and utilization modes of marine resources, you can propose better approaches of economic development and environmental protection, and then seek to establish a general consensus on marine conservation.Your voice means a lot to global governance at marine development by publishing proposals with other members. Interpretation of Final Theme is as below:
I. Rational Development of Marine Economy
Overexploitation of marine resources has brought huge destruction, forcing us to consider how to develop marine economy rationally. Let us think about few questions. What are main development fields and utilization modes of marine resources? Can we extend these fields? Can these modes be improved by insightful proposals? Can we finally achieve an empirical model for rational development of marine economy?
II. Cooperation in Environmental Protection
The state of the marine environment is closely related to the shared fate of human beings. In a global era, the protection of marine ecological environment requires more and more cooperation among countries. With this urgent mission, how to push the cooperation in the protection of marine environment? What institutional, organizational and material arrangements be designed to fulfill the cooperative protection of the marine environment?
III. Appeal for a general consensus on marine conservation
Blue-green Economy, brought up by International Union for Conservation of Nature, provides a new way to infiltrate the concept of marine ecology and sustainable development into marine economy. In order to embody the sustainable development of the ocean on the cornerstone of the common destiny for all mankind, how can we fully mobilize the initiative of different actors, coordinate resources from different parts and build a consensus of sustainable development of the ocean at both domestic and international levels through different ways and forms?
